Citing Intego

When you publish results based on Intego data, please cite two references: (1) the methodological data resource profile of Intego-II and (2) the specific database version you used. The second is essential: Intego is a dynamic database, with a new version released every quarter since 2025. Figures can differ between versions, and only a version reference keeps your results reproducible.

1. Methodological reference

Zayed AM, Janssens A, Caspers M, Mamouris P, Beerten SG, De Burghgraeve T, Libin PJK, Neyens T, Delvaux N, Van Pottelbergh G, Aertgeerts B, Vaes B. Data resource profile: the Intego-II primary care database. International Journal of Epidemiology. 2025;54(6):dyaf200. doi:10.1093/ije/dyaf200

2. Database version

Cite the release you used, with its DOI. Every release has its own citation on the KU Leuven RDR page — see Data releases. Example:

Intego. Intego-II database March 2025. KU Leuven RDR; 2025. doi:10.48804/S90SSL

Suggested wording for your Methods section

"Data were obtained from Intego-II, a general practice–based morbidity registration network in Flanders, Belgium.¹ All analyses are based on the Intego-II database version [March 2025] (DOI: [10.48804/S90SSL])."

If Intego supplied you with an aggregated dataset

Researchers who did not access the database directly but received an aggregated dataset from the Intego team should use the same two references. The database version used is stated in the documentation accompanying your delivery. Please report that version in your publication and cite it as above.

Figures from the Epi-tool or a Barometer

The underlying database version and the date of the last update are stated on the page of the tool or barometer itself.
